Well, here we are at Glacier again after two years and the Glaciers are still here. We arrived two days after the going to the Sun road was opened, July 1, and left a week before they started evacuating parts of Glacier because of fire, August 7.
We spent the month at Columbia Falls RV Park and explored the heck out of the area. We did several hikes in Glacier, one that was our favorite, HighLine, and two new ones that are now our more favorite, Siyeh Pass and Piegan Pass Trail.
We hiked outside the park as well; Jewel Basin, SwanValley, the ski resort in Whitefish “The Big Mountain” and Foy Lake.
Whitefish is a great little ski resort town. In the summer they have a great Farmers’ Market on the village green. There is an off- road bike trail system up in the foothills which we did several times and then took a dip in the beautiful Whitefish Lake. We joined their health club, The Wave, that had a pool, hot tub, sauna, steamroom and workout facility. We joined for the month and would ride or hike in the morning, go to the club for a swim/soak/workout and then walk downtown to 2nd Ave Pizza for a couple of calzones.
Columbia Falls is a smaller version of Whitefish, mostly known for being the closest town to Glacier NP. They also have a Farmers Market, a nice outdoor pool (2 bucks to swim!), and the best butcher shop ever right around the corner from out park.
A month at the park gave us time to leisurely explore a lot of what this part of the country has to offer.
See Ya!
